The Katrina Heritage Rescue Fund

For New Orleans, the US city with the largest concentration of historic French architectural treasures, disaster was compounded when the levees broke, inundating many quarters. French Heritage Society immediately established the Katrina Heritage Rescue Fund with contributions from France and the US for restoration projects to preserve the unique architectural legacy of the region.

Working in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans, it lends support to one of the largest and most critical interventions to save cultural patrimony ever undertaken in the US. To date, this campaign has raised nearly $250,000, including a grant from Les Vieilles Maisons Françaises.

French Heritage Society remains actively engaged in the area and will hold a series of events in New Orleans in 2011 to mark its presence and continued long term commitment to the city and its recovery.
