French Heritage Society is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit American organization created in 1982 whose mission is:

  • To preserve the French architectural heritage in France and the United States by awarding grants for historic preservation
    Over 500 restoration grants have been given for 19 million dollars including matching funds
  • To perpetuate the savoir-faire, knowledge, and love of patrimony through cross-cultural exchanges of architects and students in both countries
    Over 300 American and French students have taken part in summer internships with prestigious cultural organizations in France and the US
  • To nurture Franco-American friendship and a better understanding of the two cultures
    More than 80 cultural trips in France and the US have been organized for members

  • A special personalized half day à la carte in Paris for two, organized by the Cercle des Amis. This includes lunch and visits tailored to the interests and tastes of each member. This optional feature may be purchased** at any point during the membership year. FHS’ Cercle des Amis requests two weeks’ notice to make arrangements and plan each half day.
  • La Clef des Châteaux et des Jardins ®, an exclusive pass giving unlimited access to 140 private historic French monuments & gardens + accompanying Michelin Green Guide

    All benefits are valid for one year beginning on the date of enrollment and available for up to two people

This distinguished program offers distinct benefits for its members who contribute $5,000 and above annually who wish to experience private entrée to France. The Chairman’s Circle attracts prominent American members who appreciate the warm welcome extended by gracious hosts in Paris and throughout France. Through these shared experiences, they develop close bonds with their hosts and American compatriots. Chairmen’s Circle members look forward to reuniting in France and at U.S. events with this distinct family of supporters. Members can participate in an annual exclusive trip to France, in addition to other select privileges (see list above).

Highlights have included private visits to exclusive collections and sites, being received in historic châteaux and homes, formal receptions and fine dining. Hosts from prominent French families, official dignitaries and honored guests who have participated in these programs include former French President Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, HRH Prince Jean d’Orléans and, frequently, ambassadors from both countries. Members are also invited to an annual dinner in an elegant Parisian home and can opt for a special full-day of personalized visits in Paris, organized by FHS’s Cercle des Amis.*

Cercle des Amis Benefits

The Cercle des Amis organizes specially created trips and activities in Paris for Ambassadors', Chairman’s Circle and Patron level donors, providing a personalized welcome to exclusive venues and homes in and around Paris.

The Cercle des Amis offers customized behind-the-scenes opportunities to explore France’s cultural treasures.

It introduces French Heritage Society donors to the individuals who own and protect these historic places. Activities range from private visits to châteaux and elegant Parisian homes to artisans’ studios.

The Cercle des Amis is led by devoted French Heritage Society organizer Astrid Stanfield-Pinel in France.
