2011 End of the Year Appeal

As we near the end of 2011, our thoughts turn gratefully to you – our patrons and friends - who have made so much of our progress possible. Thanks to your loyal support, French Heritage Society has many achievements to be proud of in its 30 year history, which we will celebrate next year, in October 2012 at our 30th Anniversary Celebrations in Gascony, Paris, and on October 13th at our gala dinner at the Château de Fontainebleau!

In order to continue our mission, maintain our vibrancy and pertinence for the future, we need your support. Please consider making a year end gift, joining or giving a gift membership, or upgrading your current membership.

Such a gesture would be very much appreciated this holiday season!

At a time when there are many causes you might support, we are especially grateful for your generosity as we work to help save historical treasures in both countries and foster the education of future leaders in the world of historic preservation - all the while promoting friendship and exchange between the people of America and France. Our work restoring and protecting historic properties and fostering Franco-American cultural and educational initiatives brings together our members and friends, Francophiles and history-lovers, along with diplomats, well-known artisans, architects, scholars and historians.

More specifically, this year FHS is proud to have advanced its mission of preservation and education by:

Internationally

  • Committing close to $200,000 to new historic preservation grants for much needed restoration projects in both countries
  • Organizing 25 (more than ever!) trans-Atlantic internships for both American and French students to learn through a cross-cultural experience within their particular field of study
  • Enriching, broadening and enhancing the educational content and the look of our communications tools, including our member magazine Au Courant, our brochure 30 Years of Achievement and our newly redesigned website - www.frenchheritagesociety.org

Domestically

  • Holding a 2-day exposition showcase at Cultural Services of the French Embassy in NY on Master Artisans & French Savoir-Faire, which featured 10 artisans who were present to demonstrate their craft and reinforce the importance of skilled craftsmanship in historic preservation
  • Continuing FHS' Heritage Rescue efforts in New Orleans to repair historic buildings damaged by Hurricane Katrina as well as revitalizing our New Orleans chapter with a member trip to the region and Gala dinner in May 2011
  • Organizing projects promoting our common cultural heritage and furthering Franco-American relations, such as a seminar and trip in Charlottesville, VA and Washington DC on the theme of Thomas Jefferson and how France influenced his life, art and work after returning to the U.S. from 5 years living in France.

To continue providing these important grants and programs, French Heritage Society relies on generous contributions from friends such as you.

During this holiday season, please support our vital restoration work, educational programs and emergency relief with a gift of any size to the FHS Annual Fund. We appreciate any gift you are able to contribute that will assist us in fulfilling our mission in the year ahead. To continue providing these important grants and programs, French Heritage Society relies on generous contributions from friends such as you.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth F. Stribling, Chairman Denis de Kergorlay, President
